Sussex Wing Air Training Corps
Communications Training Team
The training syllabus for the Air Cadet Communicator's Badge is published by Headquarters Air Cadets as part of ACP44 and the introductory module is dealt with in ACP31 vol 6. Copies of these are held by every Air Cadet unit and electronic copies may also be requested via the link to 'Handouts' on this page.
Candidates have to successfully complete six of the eleven modules available. Two of the modules are compulsory but the choice of the other four is left to the cadet. Inevitably, not all modules are offered by all squadrons, wings or training teams however.
Each squadron is responsible for training their own cadets but some topics require specialised knowledge. For this reason a number of wings have established their own training teams to help units. The Sussex Wing Communications Training Team runs courses for five of the modules but the introductory, compulsory, module based on ACP31 volume 6 is left to the individual units to cover as part of their recruit training programmes.
Once a cadet has successfully completed six of the modules an application must be made to the unit Communications Officer for the award of a certificate and badge. The unit Officer will complete the application form and forward it to the Wing Radio & Communications Officer. If the application is valid, the Wing Radio & Communications Officer will make the necessary arrangements for the presentation of the certificate and badge; usually at a formal parade at the cadet's unit.
